I began my gardening journey in New Rochelle, New York with my grandfather. On the narrow strip on the side of their house, he faithfully grew tomatoes for my grandma's sauce. I remember how absorbed and peaceful he was in his garden. It was that experience that drew me to study Horticulture and its therapeutic benefits.
After completing my degree of Landscape Horticulture, Design & Construction at CSU, I worked as a Residential Landscape Designer and Manager for many years. Since 2019 I've enjoyed teaching Therapeutic Horticulture classes in senior living communities. I've completed numerous additional trainings including; Master Gardener, Eden Alternative Associate, City of Boulder Tree Tender, and Master Composter (that's right!). As an associate at Harlequins Gardens, I keep my hands, heart, and head in the ever-evolving industry.
I love teaching therapeutic nature classes to seniors in long term care communities. We all have a connection to nature whether its spending time under the shade of the trees, feeling the earth under your feet, or planting flowers... Plants and nature, smells and touch can bring so much joy and connection to residents. It is a gift to work with residents to recall and build on these past experiences.
Sensory Garden Spaces design solutions work to connect people more intimately with their surroundings. It is the emphasis on the senses that makes a ‘sensory garden’. Our gardens and outdoor spaces whether at home or a public setting, invite people to explore, engage, and to pay close attention to their surroundings.
